An unplanned hospital stay can really put a damper on your family fun. But you’ve done your homework. And you know that having Hospital Indemnity insurance can keep that from happening. Sure, your health insurance will help cover medical treatments and some of your hospital stay. But what about the rest? That’s where Hospital Indemnity insurance can help.

With Hospital Indemnity insurance, you receive cash benefits for covered hospital stays and expenses. The money can help offset the hospital bill, take care of day-to-day expenses, or pay for anything you need. Getting coverage is easy and affordable with:

  • Easy payroll deduction of premiums (that’ll never increase due to your age)
  • Benefits available for your spouse and/or dependent child(ren)
  • Direct payments to you or your beneficiary
  • Coverage portability, if you change jobs you can take coverage with you
  • Benefits pay for hospital care, and could include:
    • First day stay (hospital admission)
    • Additional days in the hospital
    • Days spent in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

 

Who is eligible?

  • You are eligible for this insurance if you are an active full-time employee who works at least 20 hours per week on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Your spouse and child(ren) are also eligible for coverage. Any child(ren) must be under age 26.

 

Can I insure my domestic or civil union partner?

  • Yes. Any reference to “spouse” includes your domestic partner, civil union partner or equivalent, as recognized and allowed by applicable law.
Enrollment

Add Hospital Indemnity insurance to help offset hospitalization expenses that may not be covered under your employer’s existing medical plan.

Your User ID is your full employee ID. For your first time logging in, your password will be your initials (lowercase) followed by your date of birth (MMDDYYYY). You will be required to reset your password during your first time logging in.

  • What is Hospital Indemnity insurance?

    Hospital Indemnity insurance provides a cash benefit in the event of an unexpected hospital stay for a covered illness and/or injury. You and your covered dependents are paid a set benefit amount, depending on your plan and the length of your stay.

     

    You never know when you’ll need extra support. That’s why The Hartford partners with your employer to offer you voluntary benefits – what we call “voluntary insurance coverages.” You can use the payment in any way you choose – from medical expenses like deductibles, to every day costs, like housekeeping and child care.

  • Why do I need it?

    Hospital Indemnity insurance provides:

    • Assistance to help cover the costs incurred by a hospital stay.
    • Help with additional expenses attached to time away from home, like meals, travel and lodging for loved ones.
    • Peace of mind to focus to focus on what’s most important – getting better.
  • Am I guaranteed coverage?

    This insurance is guaranteed issue coverage – it is available without having to provide information about your or your family’s health. All you have to do is elect the coverage to become insured.
  • When can I enroll?

    You may enroll during any scheduled enrollment period, or within 31 days of the date you have a change in family status.
  • When does this insurance begin?

    Insurance will become effective in accordance with the terms of the certificate (usually the first day of the month following the date you elect coverage).
